 WENDI HIPOLITO – Congratulations!

Here is Wendi’s essay:

MY TIME IS NOW

There are times in life when a person realizes that everything is going to change; for me, that moment happened when I heard a song. That song was not mainstream or complex, it was simple yet breathtaking. I fell in love. That voice that I heard with such raw emotion and that one guitar playing a simple riff impacted my life in such a way that I knew that without that feeling of wonderment, I would not have a reason to dream or even want to for that matter. From that moment on, I took every moment I could to listen to a song and for those few minutes, be able to block everything out except for those words and their melody. They make me feel like I matter and that I can maybe do something great.

Music is a universal language that has the power to give hope and joy which is something this world lacks. Though behind every great piece of music is a composer. An artist. A writer. Whatever you want to call them; each and every one of them began somewhere. I can only imagine the greatest musicians picking up their instrument or singing that perfect note for the first time and just knowing the potential that they have. It is people like that that have changed the world for the better. I one day hope to join them and give someone a reason to keep fighting like music did for me. It was why I wanted to play guitar in the first place. It is why I dream of some day playing many instruments and making a difference with them. Some people see themselves in the future being teachers or scientists, but I see myself surrounded by instruments with an eager face and no other intention than to play my heart out.

All in all, I deserve a chance to learn and expand my music abilities. Not because I think I am better than anyone else or because I just want to take advantage of any opportunities, but for the love that I have for music because it means the world to me. It is the first thing I think of when I wake up and the last thing I think of before I go to sleep. Without it, I would not be the person I am today which I hope becomes someone worth while. For there is a time when you realize when you realize your life is about to change. That time is now; regardless of whether this essay gets chosen or not. My time is now.

Why Choose Musical Surprise?

Musical Surprise is the largest music studio in the west valley!  We also provide a variety of classes and music programming in our studio and for several local schools, preschools, arts organizations and recreation programs.

Check out our studio and find out why we are the west valley’s #1 choice

1.     We provide a variety of lessons, classes and services in one location.

We offer private lessons in almost every instrument, group classes in the most popular areas of singing, piano, guitar and percussion, and have music programs available for ages 2-92!

2.     We have the most qualified music teaching staff in the west valley.

We hire degreed teachers, board-certified music therapists and professional performers.  We have someone available to teach almost any music style and genre to all levels of students.  All teachers must have a fingerprint clearance card or background check before teaching lessons.

3.     We have a professional music studio – this is our business!

No more waiting in the car (or someone’s living room), or standing in a music retail store showroom waiting for your student. We have a comfortable waiting area and everything we need at our fingertips to give your student a quality music education in a comfortable, professional environment.

4.     We Encourage parent participation and feedback!

Many studios do not allow parents to sit in with the student during their session. We encourage parent involvement because it is one the most important indicators of a students’ success.

5.     We have everything you need to get started.

Our lesson rooms are stocked with amps, guitars, pianos, keyboards, stands, full drum kits and more.  We have method books, strings, reeds and supplies in our retail section and instrument rentals are available as well– all we need is YOU!

6.     Proven track record of excellence.

Every year, aspiring music teachers start their own studio and then close it down soon after– not us!  Our full time mission is teaching music lessons, and we’ve done so successfully for more than 25 years in the various cities.  We are privately owned and operated, and moved into Surprise in 2006.  We opened Musical Surprise in 2008, and have experienced significant growth yearly, and have become the “go-to” place for music programs in this area.  We currently provide services for 8 preschools, 2 Prep Schools, the City of Surprise, Dysart Community Education and the West Valley Arts Council.

7.     Music Lessons should be educational AND fun!

We believe a strong theory-based foundation is essential to any student’s program, but we also know that our students are taking lessons because they think it would be FUN to play!  That’s why we supplement our lessons with music that students WANT to play.  We even incorporate Performance PARTIES into our teaching schedule so that students learn the joy of sharing their music with others in fun, low-pressure situations that celebrate music!

8.     Music should be accessible to everyone.

That’s why we offer lessons for ages 3 and up, classes for toddlers to adults as well as music therapy services and adaptive lessons for those with special needs.  We have worked with clients age 2 years to 92 years and welcome all ages, levels and abilities.

9.     We offer lessons at times to fit almost ANYONE’S schedule.

We currently book lessons during the following hours: Mon-Thurs 10am-8pm, Fri 10am-7pm, Sat 9am-2pm & Sun by appointment.

10.    No long-term contracts, we bill tuition on a month-to-month basis or by group class term.

We don’t think long-term contracts are necessary- our students make good progress and tend to stay because they want to!
