Terms & Conditions – Private Lessons
Schedule – Tuition is averaged over the year and divided into 12 equal monthly payments. It is based on enrollment, not attendance, and remains the same each month regardless of the number of lessons. We do not charge extra for months with five lessons or less for months with three lessons—please refer to the studio calendar for details. The studio reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regularly scheduled instructor is ill or otherwise unavailable. If a substitute cannot be arranged, any missed lessons will be made up. If a student arrives late, the lesson will still end at the scheduled time, and the studio is not obligated to extend the session. All scheduling changes must be handled through the front desk, not individual teachers. Parents and adult students are responsible for staying informed about lesson times, studio activities, performance parties, recitals, make-up classes, and studio closure dates.
Payment – A non-refundable registration fee of $25 is due at the time of enrollment. Tuition for Group Classes and Camps must be paid in full at the time of registration. Private lesson tuition is based on a 12-month period, divided into 12 equal monthly payments, and remains the same each month regardless of attendance. This ensures that your lesson time is reserved throughout the year. Tuition payments do not fluctuate based on the number of lessons in a given month (see yearly calendar for details). Private lesson tuition is due no later than the 10th of each month and will be processed via automatic bank account debit or credit card payment on the 1st of the month. Charges will appear on your bank or credit card statement as “Musical Surprise.” Late payments received after the 10th of the month will incur a $25 late fee, and any returned payments due to insufficient funds will incur a $25 NSF fee. Refunds will not be issued for Group Classes, Summer Camps, or Private Lessons if a student withdraws before the end of the month or term.
Missed Lessons – Students who notify the studio in advance of an absence will receive a make-up lesson from their instructor via LessonMate. No make-up lessons will be provided for No-Call/No-Show absences, and refunds will not be issued for missed lessons. Private makeup lessons or rescheduled lessons are only available if a teacher cancels and a substitute is unavailable.
Discontinuation of Lessons – A two-month minimum enrollment is required for all private lessons. To discontinue lessons, a 30-day notice is required, and withdrawal must be completed in person—requests via phone or email will not be accepted. Withdrawal paperwork must be submitted to the front desk, not the teacher. Automatic payments will stop 30 days after withdrawal paperwork is received. The studio reserves the right to remove a student from the schedule due to non-payment or multiple No-Call/No-Show absences.
Additional Policies – No food or drinks are allowed in the store or studio, except for bottled water with a lid. Parents and adult students must notify the studio of any changes in address or phone number. The studio does not provide before or after-class care. Parents of students under age 10 must remain in the studio during lessons, and students should not be left at the studio for excessive time before or after class. Parents, legal guardians, and adult students must disclose any medical conditions at the time of enrollment. By enrolling, parents, legal guardians, and adult students waive the right to legal action for injuries sustained on studio property during normal activities or any activities conducted before, during, or after class time.
All retail items (books, instruments, accessories, etc.) purchased from the Musical Surprise retail store must be paid for at the front desk before use in lessons. Items may not be removed from the retail area unless purchased. The studio is granted permission to photograph or record students for promotional use, including brochures, websites, social media, posters, and advertisements, and retains the copyright to these materials. Musical Surprise may use a text communication system to send important updates quickly and easily.
